Mara's April Musings
April is here and my soul just lights up thinking about it. Spring is here and everything is about to get brighter and bloom into life! Spring is the most refreshing time of the year, the sun is out longer, the birds are chirping and the fresh blooms are happening. I love nothing more than a fresh cut flower sitting on our island. This month’s inspiration is coming from all things full of life and color. Fresh blooms, garden scapes, picnics, reading, slowing down and hues of chalky blue.
COTTAGE CORE
Our time in Europe has never stopped inspiring me, specifically the cottages. Nothing speaks home to me more than a rugged stone, cozy textiles, vintage wood and fresh air. Eric, my husband, would love his dream of homesteading to come to life, but I just don’t think that lifestyle is for me. A compromise of a cutie little European inspired manor with interior stone, vintage finds, and with a window sink filled with fresh flowers, that is my type of “homesteading” that I can get on board with. The backyard would have garden beds filled with all the wild flowers the girls and I could ever dream of, cozy nooks in all parts of the house, and a cozy backyard to spend hours in.
Another reason cottage core speaks so much inspiration to me is that it makes you want to slow down. It makes you want to sit in the garden with your book and watch your kids run barefoot in the grass. Plant the garden, cut the fresh stems of zinnias and ranunculuses for the kitchen table to have fresh blooms each week and to have picnics outside each week enjoying the daylight and sunsets. So maybe Eric is onto something with the homesteading idea, I just still need to have running water and be close to a Target.
CHALKY BLUE
Soft pastels are always a treat this time of the year and so fun to add to the wardrobe. I am still a neutral girl at my core for my wardrobe so it can be filled with capsule staples, but I do love adding some color to my tops and accessories this time of the year.
These are just a few of my April inspiration style pieces to add a bit of variety to your closet.
FRESH BLOOMS
Last year we had planted a vegetable garden, which was great, but this year I decided to add multiple flower beds surrounding our deck to plant all of these stemmed flowers. I know the girls will absolutely love cutting fresh flowers each week and adding them to the vase on our kitchen table for fresh flowers each week. Some flowers that are my favorite that we are going to plant are
| Zinnias
| Ranunculus
| Anemone
| Dahlias
